Some Amusing Pics...

Just thought I would post some pics I took of the kids last night...
They were being goofy, but then again what else is new?!?!
(I think Cole was trying to make it look like he had some teeth!)

You can imagine my surprised look when they came out of their bedrooms looking like this... They wanted to know if they looked like Nanny McPhee??

Another Tooth Gone...

Cole lost another bottom tooth this past weekend... We are now 3 less teeth than we should have. Good news though since we went to the dentist for a cleaning & checkup last week and they told us that the top tooth is finally going to come through. It does look like a big tooth and that is why it is taking so long (almost 2 yrs... but it came out a little prematurely). I think it will take some adjustment time when the tooth finally comes in since we have been so used to seeing him without it. He lost the other tooth on the bottom over the 4th of July weekend while he was eating watermelon... don't ask as I don't understand it either. That tooth is also coming through but taking a little longer. Cole has been blessed (although I don't know if that is what you would call it) with his dad's mouth structure... all of his teeth need to move in order to make room as it is a little tight in that mouth. It has also been confirmed that Cole will need some type of instrument after he loses some more top teeth to re-align the top with the bottom since he sucked his thumb...

Our Luck Again

Don't you know we have all the luck!?!? We have had our big screen tv for about 5 yrs and it has moved with us 4 times... not good when you talk to tv dealers. Well for about the last 3 months our tv will unexpectedly turn green when you are watching one of your favorite shows... it will however turn back after about 30 seconds... we have also found that if it gets bumped by one of the kids that it will also change colors. This weekend our tv really headed down the tubes when the color changed and it turned off by itself... We did get it turned back on, but it took awhile to return to normal colors... We hesitated going to buy a new one thinking that maybe it would last until Christmas, but we also know what happens when we think we could wait... So we ventured off to Rockford to take a look... I knew that I had to go with or Todd would have come home with the 73" one he was looking at. We went to Primetime Audio & Video... the salesman was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions... we came home with a 65" Mitsubishi DLP. Todd tried setting it up for 3 hours before I stepped in to help. Of course I opened up the instruction manual... it is amazing how things work when you read the directions! The picture does look great, but Todd has many updates to do yet... such as an HD box from Mediacom so that the picture is even sharper. Men and their toys!!!

Another Birthday Party

Okay so here starts the time when we have a birthday pretty much every week for a couple of months... My niece, Michaela, celebrated her 14th birthday this past Saturday as JMK Nipon. Todd and I decided that our children would not do well at this restaurant... even though they would love to see the food cooked right in front of them... it takes way too long for them to wait for food (2 hrs). We lined up a babysitter so that we could go and enjoy ourselves and have some alone time. We had a wonderful time and the restaurant food was not what we expected... it was better! The cook made a heart out of rice and also was tossing eggs in the air and catching them with a metal spatula... it was great to watch! It was a great way to celebrate her birthday and we got to embarass her a little too... We sang happy birthday to her and then they sang it in their language while we clapped... her dimples showed and her face had a slight hint of blush when everything was said and done. She did get a Wii from her dad so she was on her way home then to play some new games that she just picked out. Another birthday checked off until next year!

My Extended Family

I thought maybe it was time to introduce everyone to my daytime extended family.
(A relaxing afternoon by our sandbox...)
They look so quiet and peaceful in these pics, but don't let that fool you.
(Jordan, Casey, Jaylen, Jackson and Grace- my daytime crew)
I am enjoying being home... some days are a little more challenging than others, but it is worth it to be home with my own children! I had 2 additional school-aged boys this summer and I thought that was pretty challenging even with Kili here, but I know now that it was only because all the school kids are a completely different set of kids than what I am used to on a daily basis. And if you can keep the 3 bus times straight for all 4 of them... you have it made! Not to mention that Zoe goes to school on Monday & Wednesdays and Jordan goes on Tuesday & Thursdays if that doesn't confuse things a little more. I have 2 children going through potty training during the day... and two 18 mos olds running around. It does get hectic at times, but that is why my days go so fast... or they can drag like there is no tomorrow.

(Cole, Kamron and Zoe- my school kids)

(Hunter- another school kid)

The Joys of the Game

I was amazed to find out that the 5th graders now play volleyball with the 6th and 7th graders. My niece, Danielle, decided to try it out... The kids and I went to a game tonight and the girls did pretty good. They don't get to play really that long because there are so many players, but it is good for them to start building those skills early. Danielle is a really good player and seems to enjoy it (or at least I don't think that she complains about going). Cole and Zoe really enjoyed themselves especially since we had a couple balls fly our way. Cole was really getting into it as he was starting to holler and clap for the girls... either that or he was eyeing up the next girlfriend! Don't you love their striped socks??? Reminds me of a candy cane just a different color...

Birthday Party!

Today is my dad's 63rd birthday! We went to Coach's for pizza... It is always nice to get together with the family, but today I got to see Kili (I haven't seen her for weeks and she has been MIA since she started her job at Bergner's). I also got to see my little nephew, Race (and of course, my sister, Tracy, and niece, Danielle)... I just can't seem to get Todd to want to hold Race... I think he is afraid that if he held him that he might want another one... Grandma and Grandpa were there... Along with my brother, Mike... Jean and Dennis Bose were also there (they have been close friends of my parents since they joined the GWRRA group when I was younger... way younger!). Anyway it was a great day and now we are back to the same old weekly grind.

I wish I knew what my children were thinking...

(Zoe & Emma enjoying some rice krispy bars...)
(Cole & Lucas playing at the swingset...)
I had been waiting for Saturday night all week because it meant that we were going out to the Kempel's for a get together and I could have some adult interaction; however, my children had different plans. My children were not the best children all day, but we thought that once they got playing with the other kids that they would be too busy playing to remember that they had a goal of not listening all day long! We had the get together because Jake, Abby and Jack were back for the weekend...
(Jack stopped just long enough for me to take a pic...)
Needless to say I think we got to see them and everyone else for an hour and a half. My children were not listening and someone would probably eventually get hurt... Todd decided for all of us that it was time to prove a point to them and leave... They screamed and cried because they didn't want to leave, but we did anyway... right on the spot. Once home they laid on the couch and watched Camp Rock and eventually fell asleep... I think it was a long day and they were exhausted. I wish I knew what they were thinking and why they thought it was okay to not listen... Sometimes I just do not understand my children!

Todd's New Hobby

Okay so I finally gave in... Todd purchased a remote controlled truck this weekend. This is not your normal run of the mill remote controlled vehicle because this one is gas powered. One of Todd's customers, Craig, has one and loves it.... he runs his down at the water plant and you can hear the high pitched whining noise when he is playing with it. Todd has wanted one since June, but I cannot see paying $800 for a little truck to drive around when he is only going to get it out once a month for an hour or two... so we waited until we found a used one that someone didn't want to fix... it only cost him $6 to fix and it is running great! I have to admit that it is pretty neat, but it may only be an excuse to get out of the house... I am taking bets on how long it will be before he hits a tree and has to do major work on it... I can't believe how fast it goes!

Grandma & Grandpa's House

My parents, Cole, Zoe and I made a trip out to Grandpa & Grandma Bradford's house on Saturday. I would love to go out more, but it is always so busy that I just say I will go next weekend... well not anymore! I am making myself go out 1 time a month to see them regardless of what is going on. I always love to get pictures of them with the kids, but somehow my mom suckered me into the picture... I don't know why that always happens. We had a great time and it is always great to hear updates about the rest of the family... By the way, my grandparents are expecting 3 great grandchildren early next year... that will make 14 in all!

1 Week

Okay so it was been 1 week since Goldie, Fred and Stripe have entered our lives. Todd and I were just discussing last night that it is amazing all 3 have made it this long... guess we spoke too soon. Stripe was gone when we went to feed them this morning. The kids are coping well since we still have 2 goldfish left.

My Luck...

Well last week I finally decided to call the dentist and make an appointment. I am very good at always making sure that Todd and the kids go when they should, but I always forget about myself... okay I don't forget, but it is just easier not to go. I have been having problems for about the last month with one of my bottom molars... I was thinking maybe it was cracked and had a cavity. They couldn't get me in just to look at it until the 30th of Sept, so I said okay and thought I would wait it out... my tooth had other plans. Tuesday morning I was eating a blueberry waffle for breakfast and all of sudden I had a really bad pain from that tooth. I finished chewing and swallowed the food, so I could figure out what happened... well part of the tooth was gone! Yes it was cracked and I must have bit down on it wrong and finally broke it off. Other than the sensitivity and sharpness of the tooth it really didn't bother me. Todd thought I was a baby because I said that it hurt... he also wanted to know how long I put the waffle in the toaster (he thought maybe it was hard because I burnt it)... No I didn't burn the waffle... it was soft. Well I couldn't get into the dentist until Wednesday afternoon and I was dreading the news that I was going to receive; however, everything was fine. There is no nerve damage so they are just going to rebuild the tooth up and crown it (no root canal... yeah!). They did put a very thin coating on it and ground down the sharp edges so that I can function normally, but I do need to be careful... I might need to forget about the tootsie rolls in the cupboard for awhile. I did have some of my Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia last night and everything was great (I was hoping that I wouldn't have to give this up for 3 wks!). I don't know why it seems that odd things happen to me and need immediate attention... maybe if I would go to the dentist when I am supposed to I could eliminate some of these.

Lena Fall Festival

This past weekend was the Lena Fall Festivall, so for 2 days we live uptown. I can't believe how my children are just willing to try anything! Cole and Zoe both rode many times on the cars (it is probably Cole's last year as he is just getting way too big for those things) and the dragon roller coaster. Cole and Zoe also had the chance to ride the Scrambler with me just so that they could sqoosh me without getting into trouble. They then ventured over to the "Traffic Jam"... I stood there for a moment and figured that I would have to ride with Zoe if she went and I wasn't so sure that Cole would venture alone. After I watched... I thought well this doesn't look too bad (at least it didn't go upside down and too fast). The 3 of us stood in line patiently waiting... I sat in between the 2 and thought there is no turning back now... This ride would spin around in circles, lift off the base and tilt just a little... The ride started and Cole looked terrified... Zoe just smiled. After the first 2 spins all I could think was I can't believe I didn't think it was that bad... Do not eat an hour before this ride... Halfway through Cole looked at me and said I am going to puke... I just kept telling him to think of something else because if he did it would completely cover me & Zoe. I asked Zoe how she was doing and she said that it was fun! My stomach was not feeling the best either. We made it through the ride... Cole & I didn't feel the best for about an hour and Zoe kept asking us when she could go again... The kids did get the chance to win 3 goldfish - Goldie, Fred and Stripe. The fish are doing great and still with us. Needless to say Zoe & Cole both found out that night that elephant ears and funnel cakes (with apple topping) are a great way to end the night. On Saturday, we ventured out to see the parade, but only after or trip to Pec for tumbling and swimming lessons. The kids loved the parade and of course the huge bag of candy that they received. We then returned uptown Saturday night to do Friday night all over again. We rode more rides and returned to the Traffic Jam twice (before we ate supper). Cole & Zoe talked Todd into riding the Scrambler with them this time... Todd lost his phone is one of the seats (and didn't notice until 20 minutes later)... luckily a Lena resident found it and was going to try to figure out who it belonged to instead of giving it to the "carney" guy. The kids also thought they needed the paw print tattoo, so we of course went to the end of the street... they looked great when they were done and were so proud of them!
We took the kids home to rest and meet up with their sitter, Breanna, for the rest of night... Todd & I then went back uptown so that we could go to our annual beer garden visit. As always my brother, Mike, joined us... It was a good time... It is always great to see everyone (and ones that only come around once a year)... It is; however, not a good thing when those people think you need a little more to drink... especially when they are handing you shots... I had a very long walk home and couldn't wait for my head to hit the pillow.

Sunday was just a lazy day... everyone felt fine, but very exhausted from the fun-filled weekend. Our good friends, the Foley's, came over and relaxed with us while the kids played. It is always great to have other little ones around to play... especially little guy Aiden! Cole and Zoe just love him and were trying to show their dad how they would be a great big brother and big sister if there was a little one around. Todd didn't fall for it...

It is just fine that this weekend only happens once a year... I am getting too old for all of this!

Homework, Homework and More Homework!

Okay so this is the 2nd full week of school and Cole has had homework everyday except last Friday. The teachers told us during the open house that they would have homework 2-4 times a week. It is work that is done in 15 minutes, but wow what an adjustment for the parents!!! We are so used to enjoying our time outside and just going with the flow... now we have to manage dinner, homework and baths by 8pm every night. I think the adjustment might be harder on the parents than the children. The other night the kids and I ventured to Freeport as I was in need of velcro for my daycare displays... Needless to say that I felt rushed. I knew where I needed to go and that we needed to grab supper, but I also knew that homework and baths were waiting at home. The teachers let us know that we will only be getting more with spelling tests coming in the 2nd quarter. Now I know why I dreaded school so much... Homework every night!

The School Girl

Zoe returned home from her 1st day of Preschool still grinning from ear to ear. She had a wonderful time and was ready to tell me all about it... She learned a new song and story, but couldn't remember all of them. She said that she played with her good friends, Sarah and Kamryn, during recess. She also said that she made a lot of new friends, but was a little disappointed when she couldn't remember their names. I reassured her that she will remember them as this is only her first day. I was relieved to hear that she didn't talk during nap/quiet time... I figured that she would take after me and have a hard time "refraining from unnecessary talking". She loved showing me all of the projects she completed today and even the letter that she made for me. Zoe seems all grown up... there is no turning back now...

The Bus

Zoe's 1st day of riding the bus... I had thoughts that maybe at the last minute she wouldn't get on, but I guess mom doesn't always know everything. She got on the bus with Cole and Hunter (one of my daycare kids) and didn't look back... Just as Cole had done. They all sat together in one seat and I could see Zoe just smiling from ear to ear once she sat down. My mom was here as she was with Cole on his first day. I did hold up and no waterworks from me... Todd thought for sure that I would. It was however a little different to put the kids on the bus and come back in with no one in tail... And no daycare kids coming for 10 minutes (it was actually quiet in my house for a moment... this is a rare occasion that I might just begin to love!). I haven't received a call from the school yet, so she is doing just fine and loving it (which is exactly what I had expected deep down... it doesn't hurt for a mom to pray deep down that maybe her little girl didn't want to leave her). I was a little worried because she started with a stuffy nose and cough in the middle of the night... all I could think was that school just started and this stuff cannot be starting already, but the change in weather could be the culprit. I can't wait for her to get off the bus and tell me about her day...

Preschool Open House

Zoe had her preschool open house this morning. She couldn't wait to go... in fact, she was up at 6:30am. Over the summer Zoe was known for sleeping until 8am... and for the past week she would at least sleep until 7:30am. I heard the well known question... "When do I get to go school?"... this morning about every 10 min. We had to take Cole to school this morning as he thought since mom didn't have any kids here that he didn't have to ride the bus. We then had to wait until 9am, so we went over to Aunt Tracy's house to visit and play with Race. Zoe ended up playing with one of her daycare kids, Lucas, and was content until I mentioned leaving... I couldn't drive to the school fast enough! Once we got in there... mom was all forgotten. We walked around the classroom and put all of our supplies away. We even found our towel cubbie and placed our Tweety towel in its place. We then headed out to the hall to find our cubbie... we had to search for the "star" (this is Zoe's shape/item she choose). We walked up and down the halls to find the bathroom, gym, nurse's office, cafeteria and the office. We did see Mrs. Gerbode and Zoe wouldn't say a word... I mentioned to Zoe that she was the principal... Zoe looked at me and said, "I only go to her office when I am in trouble." All I could think was... Cole must have told you that. I told her that Mrs. Gerbode is very nice and she will talk with her if she is misbehaving and not following the rules. We did venture back in the classroom as Zoe wanted to play... She was cooking and found the dress-up clothes. It took me an hour to talk her into leaving... I did try to get her to leave by telling her that we were going to see Grandma, but she said Grandma would be okay by herself (sorry Grandma!). She was having such a great time and cannot wait to go back tomorrow! So this is where by baby goes to school and leaves me for 2 days a week... She is growing up so fast! Is there a way to freeze time??

Cupcakes

The neighbor's grandson recently celebrated his 7th birthday and invited Cole & Zoe over for a treat. Of course, they loved the cupcakes and had to bring extra home to eat!!! I think Cole gets his eating habits from his father! (hahaha) Zoe's choice was the chocolate cupcake... hmmmm.... just like me!
